Medical Grants help people with treatment

There are many government grants available to help individuals in need of financial assistance. In the past it wasn’t publicized much that there were grants designed for the everyday person. Outside of the educational and scientific/health realm, not many individuals have been aware that there is money set aside just to help someone in their situation. With the help of the internet, as well as some software manufacturers, more people are learning about government grants that are available to help them. Every year new grant programs are being created.
Some of the grants available include: Educational grants, business grants, debt grants, housing grants, grants for schools, grants for farmers, the list goes on and on.
The grants that really made a difference in the life of someone I know, was the government grants for medical bills.
There is a woman I know in her early fifties who lived in Virginia. She worked hard to support her family and give time and service to her church and her community. She and her husband together made enough money to live comfortably and put a small amount away in savings each month. Some day in the near future they would be able to retire and enjoy more of each other’s company and spend more time with their two grandchildren. Her life was quiet and comfortable, just the way she liked it.
Then one day at a routine doctor visit, that whole feeling of comfort was shattered. Some blood tests came back revealing that she had cancer. Nothing could prepare her for the feelings of fear and insecurity, not only for herself but for her family as well.
After meeting with several professionals it was determined that she would undergo chemo treatments at a special hospital four hours away from her home. Her husband would have to drive her there, and they would have to stay overnight because she would be too ill to travel right after the treatments. She found solace in the fact that she had health insurance through the company she worked for, and began the process of finding out what her portion of the treatments would cost.
To her horror, she found that after paying her one thousand dollar deductable, even with the insurance company paying eighty percent, she was going to have to cover a substantial amount! After calculating the cost of travel to and from the hospital, sleeping accommodations, and the time both she and her husband would be away from work unpaid she saw their little savings was going to be eaten up with all the expenses.
Several months went by and the treatments were working slowly. The financial burden however was growing rapidly. At first, friends and neighbors helped out with food and small donations. The church also gave some financial aid. But little by little the total debt got larger and larger, until it seemed it was insurmountable. Eventually the day came when they were unable to pay their mortgage because the treatments were too much.
Her son was searching online for any means to be able to help his parents find financial assistance. He came across some information about government grants. He began to research in depth the different grants that were available and what the eligibility requirements were. To his surprise, he discovered that there were many grants available to help people like his parents. He found medical grants, to help them pay some of their medical bills, as well as a grant to help them pay their mortgage and other monthly expenses so they did not lose their home. In his research, he found that there are different software programs that make finding and researching grants more fast and effective. He also learned through these software programs how to write grant applications properly.
He began applying for government grants as well as private grants on behalf of his mother. He then taught his mother and father how to write grant applications. Within a short time they were all researching grants and writing proposals. Their efforts paid off when three weeks after applying for a medical grant they received a check in the mail. It wasn’t enough to pay off everything, but it was a start. They were able to get a grant to pay their mortgage, and utility bills, and put food on the table.
Its wonderful to hear all of the great stories of others who are in dire need of financial help get the assistance they need through government grants. There are many stories popping up out there of others who have been blessed by getting a medical grant, or another grant to help them pay their bills. There are many hard working families out there that deserve to get some help. It’s good to see that our tax dollars are going to help people who really need it.
