Fight Obesity using goverment funding

Government Funding is available to help fight childhood obesity!
The United States is seeing an alarming growth in child obesity. There are many factors that contribute to the problem, but the two main factors always boil down to diet and exercise. Let’s face it; our culture is not one for promoting health. There are advertisements all over the place for bigger portions for less money. “From 1977 to 1997, hamburgers expanded by 23%; a plate of Mexican food got 27% bigger; soft drinks increased by 52%; snacks (potato chips, pretzels, crackers) grew 60%.” Everywhere you go you are asked if you want your meal super sized!
People are finally starting to realize that we have a serious problem. We are teaching our kids to be obese. Not only is it difficult mentally for children to be obese, but it is also dangerous. It places children at a higher risk for cancer, heart disease, and a myriad of other health problems. Many studies are currently being done on childhood obesity and its lifelong effects.
This issue really hits home with me because I have a nephew that is overweight. Not only does he have obesity in his family genetics, but he eats fast food for breakfast every day! He has asthma and difficulty breathing which also contributes to his lack of exercise. And he is told by his doctor that his eating habits and sedentary lifestyle are likely to lead him to have diabetes very soon. It is a downward cycle. Each time I see him, he gets bigger and bigger. What can concerned loved ones do to help? Look for obesity grants, medical grants for treatment, and grant programs that fund obesity prevention.
There are many groups and organizations that are doing their part to focus on promoting physical activity, and preventing obesity to help combat the rapidly expanding problem. These groups have to get funding to continue their battle. Some of the groups include: Major League Baseball Players, Nike, Tony Hawk, etc. Thankfully, there are many grant programs out there that offer funding to help fight obesity. You could even start your own!
There are grants available for programs that promote positive wellness, exercise programs, health care, treatment, and preventative education.
